Band raises £1,700

7th April - A charity night held by well-known Suffolk band The Martells at Kesgrave Community Centre
 on Saturday 27 March has raised over £1,700 to help keep Anglia One, the air ambulance serving Suffolk and Norfolk, flying.  It’s the second charity night the band has held in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which operates the aircraft.
The band has supported the EAAA since it came to the aid of one its band members. Drummer Sandy Sutherland suffered a serious heart attack while playing golf in 2008.  He had to be airlifted to Colchester Hospital and is convinced that he would not still be alive had it not been for the air ambulance, a service funded purely by charitable donations.
Commenting on the charity night, Sandy said:  “It was a great night, a full-house, and performers and audience all enjoyed themselves. We’d like to thank our fellow performers, Cool Remedy and new duo JaS, who gave their services for free as did Foz – Stephen Foster - from BBC Radio Suffolk, who compered the event.
We’d also like to thank the many organisations which donated amazing raffle prizes.  They include Mercedes Lancaster’s, Jack Whites, PMT Music, Hank and Salmon, Aspects, John Russell Gallery, Ipswich Town Football Club and Tower Flowers.â€
Nicky Whymark, the EAAA’s Fundraising Manager in Suffolk, said:  “Sandy knows from experience how vital the air ambulance service is.  The way the Martells have rallied to our cause is inspirational.  We’re so grateful for their support.†
