Jemma and Aaron CookMarch 23 2010 - Jemma Cook from Willingham is calling on drivers and motorcyclists to support a Fundraising Fun Ride from Cambridge Regional College to Great Yarmouth – a distance of 91 miles.  The ride, which will take place on 18 April 2010, is being staged in memory of her brother Aaron, who died when his motorbike was in collision with a lorry in Histon near Cambridge on 16 March 2009.  He was 19 years old and the Fun Ride will take place on what would have been his 21st birthday.

The Fun Ride is the second organised by his 23 year old sister Jemma, his mother Gwen and fiancé Colin, who live in Willingham.  The first, held in 2009, raised over £3,000 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. One of its air ambulances attended Aaron after his accident but clinicians were sadly unable to save him.

Commenting on this year’s Fun Ride, she said:  “Aaron was a big motor bike fan so we felt we should do something he loved to raise funds.  Many of his friends will take part so it has a special meaning for them – but we all want to raise awareness of how vulnerable motor bike riders can be.  We’re raising funds for the EAAA as the charity performs vital work yet relies on donations to keep flying.  We are also donating his motorbike to Biker Aware.
Last year’s event was a great success and everyone who took part had a great time.  This year we’ve set our sights higher and want to make the Fun Ride bigger and better. The Mayor of Cambridge has kindly agreed to join us on his motorbike at the start and we’ll then set off for Great Yarmouth.  Once we arrive, some of us will enjoy a relaxing day by the sea side but I’ll be out with my fellow organisers, collecting money for the EAAA.
We already have more than 30 people signed up but we’d like more to join the fun.â€

Jemma asks that those interested in taking part contact her on 07852 142915.  Riders and drivers will assemble at Car Park 2, Kings Hedges Road, Cambridge CB4 2QT.
