Timbuktu Fundraiser
Plymouth to Dakar Challenge 2008-2009
John Howlett and John Ewing are taking part in the Plymouth to Dakar Challenge 2008-2009. The challenge is from Plymouth to Timbuktu. They will be driving a Landrover Discovery departing Norfolk on the 28th December. The Timbuktu Challenge heads south through Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania but after the Sahara Desert crossing the route heads inland to Mali and Sengal, arriving in Banjul in the Gambia. The journey to Bamako is approximately 4100 miles, and can be covered in 2WD vehicles in around 3 weeks. To travel further, to Timbuktu itself, is more challenging and does require 4WD vechile. This is NOT a race. All surving vehicles are to be donated to the local charity auctions at the end of the challenge. The money that John and John raise from sponsorship here in the uk will then be given to the East Anglian Air Ambulance. To have a look at what they are doing and to sponsor them please see
