The Team
The four main elements
The helicopters... are BK117s. Specially modified for medical emergency work. They carry one pilot and two paramedics or a paramedic and a doctor on every mission.
The paramedics and doctors... Are drawn from the same teams that crew the land ambulances. They receive additional training to equip them for some of the navigational duties they have to perform and also for the more extreme medical emergencies they have to tackle. Our doctors are all volunteers.
The volunteer doctors flying on Anglia Two are from another charity based in Cambridge, MAGPAS.
The pilot... Is one of a team that work for Sterling Helicopters. Gerry Hermer, Managing Director of Sterling is a keen supporter of the East Anglian Air Ambulance and his team is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Anglias One and Two.
The control room... missions are controlled from the main NHS Ambulance Trust’s Norwich HQ. Here a team of trained operators will assess every emergency call against a pre-determined set of criteria to establish whether Anglia One should be called out.
