Our official launch
The East Anglian Air Ambulance was officially launched by champion jockey Frankie Dettori in the Summer of 2000 at the Millennium Grandstand at Newmarket Racecourse.
The service began flying in January 2001 and in the early days the service was only able to operate one day a week, but within five months Anglia One was flying five days a week.
Now the helicopter and its crew are on stand-by for 365 days a year and can reach almost anywhere in the region within 20 minutes and often quicker. Operating during daylight hours, the helicopter begins and ends its day at Norwich airport where Sterling Helicopters, the operator, is based. During the day, Anglia One relocates during the day to premises at RAF Honington, covering the east of the region (Norfolk and Suffolk).
Anglia Two will be based at RAF Wyton and will cover the west of the region (Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire).
We fly an average of 4 to 5 missions a day.
